6 Tips on Empowering Your Mind
Are you just barely managing your way through your problems? The mistake with ignoring a problem is it doesn't always go away and you don't get what you want. Sometimes, well … most of the time actually, you are not aware of what is blocking you.
Are you just living your life? Are you inundated with negative beliefs or thoughts? You do not have to live that way anymore. There is a way to create a new pattern of beliefs which could result in more positive thoughts.
Believing negative beliefs about yourself or ruminating on negative thoughts … are not helpful, but of course, you already knew that, didn't you? In fact, you know negative beliefs and ruminating thoughts hold you back from what you want.
Attempting to ignore them or shut them down is extremely counterproductive. The more you resist a self-limiting belief, the more power you give it. The more you remind yourself to stop the ruminating, the more influence it gets and you will actually think the thoughts more. Feelings of anxiety will surface because you don't know how to stop them. You think you can just mentally muscle your way out of self-limiting beliefs or negative thoughts. No, you can't. It doesn't work that way.
So what can you do? Here are some tips you could do to calm those beliefs and thoughts.
6 Tips on How to Harness Your Mind
1. Focused Interference
Set up a go-to thought to interfere and diminish the power of a negative thought when it crops up. Having an alternative good thought to focus on is better than letting your mind wander. Why? Because aimless mind wandering is directly associated with unhappiness. Allowing your mind unfettered control over where goes and what it focuses on is fruitless. It is better to concentrate on an idea, a song, a book passage, a quote or a specific task. Have something ready. Make a plan to immediately shift when negative thoughts or self-limiting beliefs pop up.
2. Choose to Ruminate Later
Self-limiting beliefs or negative thoughts are not like an unwanted visitor who comes to your house and you don’t answer the door. Research suggests stopping self-limiting beliefs or negative thoughts can be done by mentally setting up a “designated time period” so you can postpone your ruminating until later.
3. Face Your Beliefs and Negative Thoughts Straight On
Don't be afraid. Rather be strong. But understand this tip is not for the faint-hearted. Face and deal with each self-limiting belief and negative thought. Determine if each is real or if they are an illusion. Research suggests that this process can starve off their power. These shadowy thoughts rarely survive the light of direct examination.
4. Be Mindful
Center your mind in the moment by focusing on your breathing or heartbeat for 4 minutes or more. This will promote mindfulness, compassion, and non-judgment towards the unwanted beliefs or thoughts streaming in your mind. Being mindful helps to reduce the influence the unwanted patterns have over you.
5. Write It Down
Writing a curative method. Writing them down helps you to get those nagging unwanted beliefs and thoughts out of your mind and storing them on paper. This method also quells the repetitive anxieties, fears, and worries of what might happen in the future which often accompanies unwanted beliefs and negative thoughts.
6. Talk to Yourself Out Loud
Actually hearing out loud your unwanted beliefs about yourself and negative thoughts reduces their power. In fact, you might realize the lack of logic or humor in them, and you will quickly stop holding on to them.
Afterthoughts
You are not powerless to these self-defeating, self-limiting beliefs or negative thoughts. If you follow these tips, they will allow you to gather up your personal authority, increase your mind power and become the master of your mind. You will, therefore, be able to command and create the positive mental environment you have always wanted. Believe in your ability. Commit to accepting and practicing one or all of these tips.
