Tips for Normalizing and Healing Dissociative Identity Disorder

Do you suffer from or know someone you love who is suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder or DID?

Has traditional therapy and medication not worked.

Well, there is another way. For over 20 years I help survivors with DID to successfully stabilize their condition with Incorporation Therapy, and as a result, they began to enjoy a better way of life. Incorporation Therapy was very successful as a stabilization method, but it was not designed nor was the objective of Incorporation Therapy to take survivors with DID further into trauma healing.

Now there is an upgrade to Incorporation Therapy that accomplishes the objective aiding a survivor with DID to begin to heal post trauma.

The name of the upgrade to Incorporation Therapy is System Unification Method or SUM. SUM is the result of research, feedback from survivors with DID who had been incorporated at least 3 to 4 years of experience and 4 years of development and beta testing.

Here is the culmination of my 40+ years of passion and work to build a better trauma product for survivors with Dissociative Identity Disorder which is healing, safe, productive, and positive, and most important it works. There is hope for healing DID.

Below is a discussion about the successor to Incorporation Therapy

Tips for Healing Dissociative Identity Disorder

Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) has been a very misinterpreted, underestimated, misunderstood and feared diagnosis for both survivors and many members of the therapeutic community. Dissociative Identity Disorder has been dreaded for centuries. Dissociative Identity Disorder is not a mental illness instead it is a natural protective response, reaction to experiencing repetitive overwhelming and life-threatening events.

The label DID carries with it a lot of stigmas as depicted in movies and television. Societal beliefs, religious beliefs, and science do not cast a favorable view of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Some professionals, particularly psychiatrists, do not even believe DID is real, and others are not trained to assess or conduct therapy on the complex condition. Anyone who has received a DID diagnosis has felt extreme pressure, real or imagined, to hide his or her symptoms. Therefore, those who carry this condition experiences feelings of blame, embarrassment, guilt, shame, and humiliation. Survivors with DID really think they are damaged inside or crazy because many survivors do not understand the symptoms they are having at the onset.

Traditional types of treatment do not seem to be effective with survivors who have a diagnosis of DID. Conventional accepted therapies focus on past life experiences looking for the specific “event” that caused the “problem.” Once the problem is found, a diagnosis has to be given. Then treatment is done by the correct protocol connected to that diagnosis even if the problem is misdiagnosed.

The Problem

This type of therapeutic self-discovery can cause re-living experiences, very frightening events, feelings of disloyalty, dissociative episodes, shameful thoughts, rejection, extreme triggering, and can be emotionally devastating … to name a just few of the potential side effects. This type of course of treatment is tough and time consuming for survivors with a DID. Traditional methods of treatment like integration, including medication, tend to cause abuse and trauma survivors to be re-traumatized as a result and experience frequent relapses as well as regression periods. Conversely, the inner system views these types of treatment as an attack, and experience increased feelings of fear, multiple episodes of switching between the parts and re-traumatization.

Refreshing View of DID

The brain is hardwired to survive no matter what. I believe creating a DID System is a healthy and natural defense reaction to experiencing horrible, repetitive life-threatening events. It is a natural defensive response to overwhelming traumatic experiences.
This life-saving separation of a whole self into a DID system appears to be a mirror of the human brain and how it functions. Think about this … even though the brain is one organ, the brain operation as a whole is done via functional compartments. The brain governs the functions of both the body and the mind through different centers. Development of DID is an innate defense mechanism to protect the whole by forming many separate compartments of parts or alters with each one functioning differently......

Tips on the Benefits of Completing the SUM protocol:

Past emotional charge within traumatic memories is eliminated, triggers are disconnected, hypersensitivity and hypervigilance are removed, experience reduced negative thinkingold negative core beliefs are removed, old core expectations are shifted, self-limiting, self-harming and self-defeating messages are eliminated, and no medication is needed, as well as no hospitalization.

Takeaway

The SUM method for healing survivors with DID allows the survivor to free his or her parts from past traumatic structure, restructure inner DID system while beginning a new life of growth and healing immediately.

Another very positive side effect of experiencing System Unification Method is the significant reduction in the intensity of PTSD symptoms experienced by a DID system.

  1. Could have used this in December. 1st 3 to incorporate were stabilized. I have to say not so much so on the last 2. More like emotions run wild, seek & destroy! How does it work when alters are triggered by 2 entirely separate traumatic issues at the same time. Like each parent has there own vice. I would think it would be much more difficult. You release 1 memory, but you still have the other crazy one to contend with. That child would have to be extremely resourceful to survive don't you think? She would have to discern the situation & choose the best option at the time, to salvage what little sanity is left. Judge less, understand more!! Maybe you just can't see the bigger picture. You need a bigger telescope.

  2. Anonymous,

Thank you for your comments and your honesty.

A bigger telescope, wouldn't that be nice. Very cute. Put on in the dome.

How about a safer and more comfortable environment that would facilitate healing rather than stabilization then SUM would be more effective for you. SUM helps to remove that layering of memories and has new mechanisms inside that take care of core beliefs and expectations. Parts most cherished talents are their survival abilities. They are afraid that any recovery method will take away their abilities and they will be vulnerable again and won't be able to protect you anymore.

Keep working on your recovery. Keep following.

  3. Dr. Bill,

How does this work? Do you have a book about it yet like "separated from the light"? Is it inpatient or outpatient? How long of a process is it? I feel like I'm right back where I started before I went to Florida.

    1. The new program will be outpatient, rehab program. It will be state of art and will be based on all upgrades I have developed since WiiT. it will be a holistic healing program not just stabilization program. I have been working on it for over a year. Better that WiiT was.

      thanks for your inquiry.

  4. Dr. Bill,

How does this work? Is it inpatient or outpatient? How long does it take? Is it something I can do while working? I feel like I've lost everything I gained in Florida...

    1. It will be 30 to 90 day program. Sorry you have lost everything. I do have a private practice over Skype and a 30 day challenge online product that can help you gain back what you lost.

  5. Thanks for the reply, Dr. Bill. If it's outpatient, but for 30 - 90 days, where do people stay if they are from out of state? Insurance surely wouldn't pay for accommodations, would it? If it were outpatient?

    1. The program would be housed in a rehab facility that would have bedroom for 10 women, treatment rooms, place for yoga, meditation art therapy and ground to walk on with gardens. Maybe on the water. Yes insurance would pay for it. Insurance likes rehab because the cost is a lot less than inpatient hospitalization.

Also my new program is far better and healing than Incorporation was. I have grown so much from working with clients all over the world. I hope you download my eBook and see how much my new theory has become. PTSD, DID and Dissociative disorders need to be normalized. They are not a mental illness.
